The Suicide Squad director James Gunn is teasing that his ensemble film will have more than one post-credits scene. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was the first attempt at bringing DC’s band of villains to the big screen, and despite grossing over $700 million at the box office, the film was panned by critics and audiences for its clunky story, as well as its PG-13 rating. Warner Bros. later hired Gunn to revive the franchise, and the director’s soft reboot/sequel already appears to correct some of the original’s mistakes. The Suicide Squad is R-rated, and it’s already reaping the rewards of that as the film’s red band trailer set a new record for views. Also, Gunn confirmed that the film is his from start to finish, with no interference from Warner Bros.

Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will feature only a handful of characters from the first film, such as Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). The film will introduce plenty of new faces to the world, ones that fit Gunn’s fondness for the unconventional, characters like Peacemaker (John Cena), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), and the giant villainous starfish, Starro. Much like most of the director’s projects, plot details are being kept quiet, and aside from being described as a “1970s war movie,” fans know the team will embark on a dangerous mission to the island of Corto Maltese. However, it appears The Suicide Squad will follow the comic book film tradition of potentially having more than one post-credits scene.

After sharing a piece of The Suicide Squad fan art on social media, the film’s director began replying to fan questions attached to the post, as he so often does. One of the fan questions was in relation to the DC film having post-credits scenes, as the director was asked if there is “a post credit scene?” In response, Gunn tweeted back “A”?” A simple reply that makes one believe Gunn may have more than one post-credits scene in store for the audience. Full tweet can be seen below:

Having made his name with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn is no stranger to post-credit scenes, be it ones that serve to set up future stories or are simply there to entertain. Also, much like Gunn is teasing with The Suicide Squad, he’s also not shy about including more than one, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has five scenes that play after the film. Considering the cast of characters involved in the project, Gunn could certainly create some entertaining post-credits scenes. It will also be interesting to see if one of (assuming there is more than one) the post-credits scenes set up a future film or even the Peacemaker spin-off series that will hit HBO Max in January 2022.

One of the tag lines attached to The Suicide Squad’s character posters is “Don’t get too attached,” as not everyone will make it to the final credits, and according to Gunn, Warner Bros. told him he was free to kill any of The Suicide Squad's characters. So fans might be curious who will make it to the film’s post-credit scenes. Expectations will be high for the film ahead of its August release in theaters and on HBO Max, especially considering the film is the most anticipated DC or Marvel film on IMDB. Gunn and co. will be hoping the film will satisfy audiences this time around so that if they do set up any future narratives with one or more post-credits scenes, fans will be eager to see more of The Suicide Squad.
